NewsChannel 21 Meteorologist

Born in Colorado in May of 1989, I grew up watching a wide variety of weather through four very distinctive seasons. One late evening, in the heart of winter, before a highly anticipated snowstorm, my family was sitting at home watching the local weatherman on TV.

I watched as he talked about the approaching cold front and described the stream of moist warm air that would bring a possible record breaking snowfall to the region. I smiled with the thought of a possible snow day, it was exciting! At that moment, in that excitement, while I watched the weatherman point at the brightly colored moving graphics on the screen, I decided I wanted to be a meteorologist. I was 12 years old.

Through the rest of my public schooling I worked hard, taking as many math and science courses as I was able. When I graduated, I attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado. While there, I landed an internship in Denver, Colo. under Mike Nelson, the same weatherman I had been watching when I was inspired to pursue my career. The two years I spent in my internship have so far been the most valuable experience in my professional life.

Beginning my junior year, I began work at DayWeather, Inc., forecasting for multiple newspapers nationwide as well as recording weather hits to be broadcasted across the Midwest. It was here where I gain much of my confidence, ability, and experience as a meteorologist.

Finally, during the start of my second semester of my senior year in college I accepted a part time position working the weekend weather shift at the CBS station in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Upon receiving my BS in Meteorology in May of 2011, I was hired on full time. My new duties included reporting on the weekdays in addition to my weekend position.

A year later I left Cheyenne and came to Bend. I arrived at NewsChannel 21 in June of 2012 and I am thrilled to be finally working in the great state of Oregon (a place I consider to be my career destination). Bend is a beautiful city and Central Oregon is a diverse region with hundreds of micro climates I’m very happy to be forecasting for!
