Producer/reporter, NewsChannel 21 at Six
I’ve always been fascinated with documenting those stories that would otherwise go untold—and fortunately, I carved myself a career path that allows for exactly that. I moved to Bend to become NewsChannel 21’s 6 o’clock producer in May 2013, after graduating from the University of North Carolina in December 2012.
I was born and raised in Southern Maine, and lived there for 15 years, until my family moved to Chapel Hill, N.C. Growing up with two architectural-salvage obsessed parents fueled my passion for histories — those buried in an old home, or deep within someone’s past, but I wanted to do something more impactful on the present.
As a broadcast journalism student at UNC-Chapel Hill, I dove right in from the start, writing for the school newspaper, and for a number of lifestyle magazines, eventually becoming the editor-in-chief of one.
I interned in NYC for two summers — first, writing and assistant producing for Fox News Health, and then, managing greenroom operations and producing segments for the channel’s morning show, Fox & Friends. I also interned for Figure 8 Films, a Chapel Hill TV production company that produces shows like Sister Wives and 19 Kids and Counting.
During my senior year, I anchored and produced a weekly radio news show, Carolina Connection, which was honored as Best College Radio News Program by the Society of Professional Journalists in 2012.
That same year, I was awarded sixth place in the Hearst Journalism Award's radio competition for two stories I reported and produced. I was also awarded the Student Radio News Best of Festival in the Broadcast Education Association's Festival of Media Arts for a radio story I reported and produced.
After graduating a semester early in December 2012, I worked in Northern Italy as an au pair, becoming fluent in Italian.
Besides being a journalist, I’d call myself a health, home and travel junkie. I love boating, skiing, being musical, doing art and I’m slowly becoming a cook and runner.
When I’m not working, I’m exploring all the High Desert has to offer. Whenever I do miss the salty breeze of Coastal Maine or that Southern charm, I’m instantly put at ease by the amazing scenery surrounding me and the kindness found in the people who live here.
It’s an honor to be bringing the people of Central Oregon their news — I take pride in the fact that High Desert residents look to NewsChannel 21 to stay informed, and I can’t wait to see what becoming a part of this community brings.
