How to detect hearing loss in babies

How can you tell if your baby is suffering from hearing loss? Watching for the following signs can offer some clues.

 

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one symptom to look for is if your baby doesn’t seem startled at loud noises.

 

As your child ages, watch to see if he or she looks at a sound source after the age of about 6 months.

 

If your child doesn’t say a single word by the time he or she is 1 year old that could be a sign of hearing loss, according to the CDC.

 

The CDC recommends to also watch your child to see if he or she responds to you calling his or her name. Also watch to see if your child responds to some sounds but not all sounds.
