REDMOND, Ore. -

A little girl in Redmond is literally going through the fight of her life, and every step you take will help.

A 5K walk and run has been organized for Avrey Walker, 8, a second-grader who's fighting Leukemia for the second time in her young life.

She was first diagnosed in 2007, when she was just four years old. After a blood transfusion, bone marrow biopsy, and a lot of chemotherapy, Avrey beat it once.

But then in December of last year, her family learned the cancer had returned aggressively.

Avrey's spent a lot of time at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, but has been able to be back in class at Redmond's John Tuck Elementary for a couple of days this week - for the first time in months.

"Up at Doernbecher, she's been going through some pretty intense chemo treatments, and the last time she was up there she was isolated in her room for about 26 days, so she's just been in constant battle and making sure her counts are high enough to go out when she can," said her teacher, Lexie Marks.

The 5K, called 'Triumph for Avrey,' is being put on by Triumph Fitness in Redmond. It's scheduled for May 7th at 10am in Redmond, and is $25 per entry.

"It was something that we couldn't pass up, so watching the community come together and be a big support has been fantastic," said owner and trainer Joe Fonseca.

Proceeds from the 5K will go toward the Walker family's medical bills.
