A Bend man was injured Tuesday when his motorcycle struck a deer that ran out in front of him in La Pine, Deschutes County sheriff's deputies said, one of two motorcycle crashes in the county.
David Alan Lott, 64, was riding south on Huntington Road, about a quarter-mile north of State Rec Road, around 8:30 a.m. when he struck the deer and crashed, said Sgt. Vance Lawrence.
Lott, who was wearing a helmet and protective gear, was taken by ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center-Bend, where he was listed in fair condition late Tuesday afternoon.
The injured deer was dispatched at the scene, Lawrence said.
Excessive speed was not an issue, the sergeant said, and there were no signs of impairment regarding Lott.
Another motorcyclist was taken to the hospital later Tuesday after striking a tree in a crash east of Bend.
The crash occurred just after noon near Alfalfa Market and Stenkamp roads, officials said.
The rider apparently lost control on a corner, missing a road sign and telephone pole but hitting a juniper tree. Friends said he was wearing protective gear, but there was no word on the extent of his injuries.
