BEND, Ore. -

Attendees at Central Oregon Community College Foundation’s recent benefits set a 38-year fundraising record: $265,000 was raised for COCC student scholarships. Last year., 320 students received foundation scholarships.

“This is truly an awe-inspiring testimony to the generosity of Central Oregonians and how much they believe in our students,” said Jim Weaver, executive director of the COCC Foundation.

This year’s benefit included Taste of the Town on March 1 and the Meal of the Year dinner and auctions on March 2. The Friday event featured signature selections from 20 local restaurants, live music by Pressure Point, dancing and a silent auction.

Nearly 400 people attended the Saturday dinner, which featured a four-course gourmet dinner created and served by Cascade Culinary Institute students and chefs as well as live and silent auctions.

Dr. John Teller and Amy Tykeson were honored for their numerous contributions to the Central Oregon community. John, a family practice physician, serves on the board of Volunteers in Medicine. Amy is the president and CEO of BendBroadband.
