For the second time in a week, a fire heavily damaged a Warm Springs home Sunday evening, and again Red Cross disaster volunteers are helping a displaced family.

A neighbor reported the fire around 7:30 p.m. at a single-story home in the 1700 block of Bray Avenue, not far from a blaze a week ago that caused $45,000 damage to a home on Foster Street, said fire Capt. Kirk Hagman.

The family was home but escaped uninjured, Hagman said, adding that the cause of this blaze was under investigation and a damage figure was being compiled.

American Red Cross responders said they were helping with lodging for the one adult and two children displaced by the fire.

The earlier fire was reported around 10 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20 at a two-story home on Foster Street in the Agency area of Warm Springs.

The residents called in the fire and were able to escape their home without injury, Hagman said, adding that losses were estimated at $45,000.

An item left cooking on the stove was the apparent cause of the fire, Hagman said. There were no injuries, he added.

Most of the contents were saved, the fire captain said, but the damage meant the family spent the night at Inn at Cross Keys Station in Madras.

The Red Cross provided food, clothing and lodging for the two adults and four children, the organization reported.
