BEND, Ore. -

St. Charles Health System said Monday it is pleased to welcome Mack Gardner to its Board of Directors as a representative from Madras.

Gardner served on the Mountain View Hospital Board of Directors for the past five years and was selected as the Madras representative to fill a seat on the St. Charles board as part of the hospital’s transition to the St. Charles system.

“Few things are more important than the health of our communities,” Gardner said, in explaining why he was interested in joining the St. Charles board. “Knowing that the Madras hospital was becoming a part of the larger system, I realized that this was an opportunity to have a real positive impact throughout the region.”

Gardner served in the U.S. Army for 23 years before retiring from the service and moving to Madras in 1994.

During his time in Central Oregon, he has worked as the program director for the Jefferson County Commission on Children and Families and he ran the federal Migrant Head Start program for the Oregon Child Development Coalition in Jefferson County.

He was a member of the Jefferson County Education Service District Board of Directors for seven years and serves on the Air Show of the Cascades board.

“Mack’s extensive experience working with children and families in Jefferson County will be a valuable asset to the St. Charles board as we work through this transition of adding St. Charles Madras to our family,” said James A. Diegel, FACHE, president and CEO of St. Charles Health System. “We welcome Mack to the board and look forward to learning much from him.”

Gardner will serve a three-year term.
