REDMOND, Ore. -

A high-speed turned slow-speed pursuit ended in a southwest Redmond subdivision early Wednesday when the alleged drunk driver ran into a parked car, then jumped out and left his car in neutral, letting it roll into a garage, police said. A police dog bit the fleeing suspect when he refused to stop, they added.

Shortly after 2 a.m., Redmond officers were notified of a car coming into the city from Bend at a high rate of speed, said Officer Robert Duff.

The car was located by police near SW Odem Medo Road and Canal Boulevard, Duff said.

As officers tried to stop the Nissan Maxima, the driver, later identified as Luis Magdaleno Nava, 28, of Redmond, tried to turn into a subdivision in the 2200 block of SW 21st Street, Duff said.

At that point, having dropped to low speeds, Nava ran into a nearby parked car, Duff said. He then jumped out and ran, but left his car in neutral and it rolled into another resident’s garage, he added.

Officer Hank Majetich and his dog, “Arco,” were deployed, which Duff said led to a successful capture” a few minutes later.

Nava "refused several orders to stop and resisted" arrest, said Lt. Nathan Garibay, resulting in him being bitten by Arco.

Nava was taken to St. Charles-Redmond for treatment. He was cited at the hospital due to his injuries, and faces two counts each of hit-and-run, attempt to elude and first-degree criminal mischief, as well as DUII and reckless driving charges.

Online records indicate Nava was arrested last August in Eugene on drug manufacture and delivery charges.

Duff said Redmond police appreciated assistance by Bend and Oregon State Police in resolving the incident.
