Albany couple injured in crash near Detroit

An Albany couple was injured Wednesday morning, one critically, when their car left Oregon Hwy. 22E and crashed just east of Detroit in Marion County.
Around 9:25 a.m., a Honda Civic four-door driven by Lyman Lais, 71, was eastbound on Highway 22E near milepost 51. For an unknown reason, the driver lost control and the car crossed the highway, crashing into a ditch along the westbound shoulder, troopers said.
Lais and his wife, Susan Lais, 70, were cut from the wreckage by firefighters.
Lyman Lais was flown by AirLink helicopter to St. Charles-Bend, where officials said he was in critical condition Wednesday afternoon. His wife was taken by Lyons Ambulance to Salem Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, troopers said.
OSP was assisted at the scene by the Lyons Rural Fire Protection District, Gates Rural Fire Protection District, Idanha-Detroit Rural Fire Protection District,and ODOT.
The highway was closed for an hour during the incident response and investigation.
Senior Trooper Charles Burdick is the lead investigator. No enforcement action has been taken, troopers said.
