Bend Kiwanis Club honored for work with parks
Bend Kiwanis Club was recently honored to receive the 2103 Oregon Park and Recreation Association Private Sector Service Award at the association’s annual conference on September 16th. This award was presented to the Bend Kiwanis Club for their ninety years of service with the Bend Park and Recreation District.
As a partner with the district, the Bend Kiwanis Club has been instrumental in the acquisition of park property and building shelters and play grounds in our community parks. Since 1929, the group has significantly helped with more than a dozen Bend parks including Columbia Park, Pioneer Park and Kiwanis Park which is named after the group.
In addition, the Bend Kiwanis Club has provided financial resources and volunteer hours for youth recreation activities, scholarships, and sponsorship of community events such as July 4th Pet Parade, July 4th Old Fashioned Festival games, MAGIC in the Park and Central Oregon’s Got Talent.
“It is nice to be recognized by a state association for our club’s efforts in making a difference in our community for the past ninety years,” club member Cindy Crowther said. “It’s our goal to have a positive effect and change the world, one child and one community at a time.”
