Bend Parkway-Third St. changes due next week
Weather permitting, ODOT will be making significant changes next week to the intersections on the Bend Parkway (Highway 97) and Third Street as work on the Murphy Road project progresses .
The following traffic control changes will affect travel through this corridor:
The current access to 3rd Street from US97 will be closed.
Northbound US97 highway traffic may access 3rd Street (US97 Business) using Badger Road.
Southbound US97 highway traffic may access 3rd Street (US97 Business) using eastbound Powers Road.
Southbound 3rd Street (US97 Business) will be closed south of Murphy Road. Access will remain open to businesses.
Southbound 3rd Street (US97 Business) traffic may use Pinebrook to access US97.
The following traffic control changes will occur on 3rd Street (US97 Business) at Pinebrook Boulevard and Murphy Road:
The intersection at 3rd Street (US97 Business) and Murphy Road will change from a signalized intersection to a 4 way stop.
The intersection at 3rd Street(US97 Business) and Pinebrook Boulevard will become a signalized intersection.
Motorists should pay close attention to new signals and other changes to traffic patterns in the area.
The Murphy Road project is a strategic improvement to U.S. 97 freight mobility, and greatly enhances safety and mobility for the overall transportation system for the City of Bend.
Elimination of the signalized intersections at 3rd Street and Pinebrook Boulevard on U.S. 97 will alleviate congestion and increase mobility in the corridor and greatly reduce the crashes at these locations, which are some of the highest in Central Oregon.
The preliminary cost estimate for these road and bridge improvements is approximately $25.1 million and is being mostly funded through the Jobs for Transportation Act (HB 2001).
This first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
