The Bend-La Pine Schools Summer Meals and Summer Reading program kicks off on Friday, June 17 in the Bend area and Monday, June 24 in La Pine. The program serves hundreds of local students healthy, tasty meals each weekday at nine locations throughout Bend and La Pine.

"A teacher will be available at the Lunch and Learn site to encourage and coach students as they continue to hone their reading skills during the summer months."
Arntson adds that students can earn books and other incentives by simply reading throughout the summer and participating in the program.
