BEND, Ore. -

The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant to Healthy Beginnings in support of the program’s efforts to expand and enhance its essential screening and referral services and outreach to underserved families.

Healthy Beginnings assures parents that their children are developing appropriately or, if needed, HB makes referrals for in-depth evaluation and treatment at no cost to the families. Parenting information and community resources are provided free as well.

The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation award supports the organization’s efforts to increase the number of high risk families served specifically for vulnerable populations.

“This funding will go a long way to help us increase access to health, dental, and vision care, while improving access to Early Intervention and behavioral health, in rural communities in Deschutes County, especially for families without adequate access to health care or insurance” explained Holly Remer, HB’s Executive Director.

Every family attending a Healthy Beginnings screening receives extensive information on the heath and development of their child as well as resources in the community. This unique service is supported by community donations and volunteers who have a background and interest in working to improve the lives of young children in our community.

The mission of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation is to offer assistance in youth education, to strengthen youth and family, to provide positive youth development, and to add to the quality of life for people in southwestern Oregon. Awards are made semiannually, in January and June. Since 2004, CCUIF has provided Healthy Beginnings with over $25,000 in support of it services to vulnerable children in our communities.
