DCSO plans Thanksgiving-week DUII enforcement
The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office will be increasing traffic patrols during nighttime hours to focus on DUII enforcement during the holiday season. The campaign will run from November 22 through December 2.
The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office along with the Oregon Department of Transportation encourages all drivers and passengers to make a conscious effort to use their seatbelt at all times while traveling in a motor vehicle regardless of the distance traveled.
Furthermore, we encourage all drivers to drink responsibly. If drivers intend to drink, please plan ahead and use a designated driver or public transportation such as a cab or the local bus system.
The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office will be partnering with agencies throughout the State of Oregon during this time who will be participating within their own jurisdictions to reduce the incidents of drugs/alcohol related traffic incidents.
Wednesday night (before Thanksgiving Day) revelers have helped make the Thanksgiving weekend one the most dangerous holiday periods for driving. In four of the past five years for which data is available, the weekend surpassed even New Year's, in terms of alcohol-related driving fatalities, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
