An emotional goodbye Saturday as Bend firefighters lay one of their own to rest. We'll take you to the memorial.

BEND, Ore. -

Hundreds of firefighters filled Westside Church in Bend on Saturday for a memorial service for one of their own.

Aaron Beatty, 36, worked with the Bend Fire Department for 13 years as an engineer, meaning he was in control of the functions of a fire engine.

Beatty died in a fall at his home last weekend.

Colleagues said Beatty was a joy to work with, a professional and master of his craft.

The department has received tremendous amount of support from the community.

"We are all human, but what's really great is we have a strong support network," said Deputy Fire Chief Larry Medina. "So those that were really close, that worked day to day with Aaron (have) a tragic loss, but everyone has been able to support each other."

Many firefighters from around the region attended the service and brought their rigs as well.

The honor guard and the Bend Fire Pipes and Drums band also were on hand.

Beatty's is the first death of a Bend firefighter in over five years.
