TERREBONNE, Ore. -

Redmond firefighters and Deschutes County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue volunteers helped get an injured hiker down from the top of the Misery Ridge Trail at Smith Rock State Park Sunday evening, authorities said.

Around 5:20 p.m., Redmond firefighters requested help from Deschutes County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue with the rescue of Kayla Lynn Miller, 25, who had fallen a short distance and was unable to hike back to her car, said sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Winters, assistant SAR coordinator.

Two deputies and eight SAR volunteers responded to the top of the trail, where several Redmond fire members already had begun treating her, Winters said.

Miller told rescuers she had hiked to the top of Misery Ridge with two friends and was “scrambling around” on some rocks when she tumbled off and was hurt. Initial reports from the scene indicated a possible ankle injury.

Once Miller was stabilized by fire personnel, she was placed on a wheeled litter and brought to the bottom of the trail, where she was reunited with her two friends, who drove her from the scene.
