SALEM, Ore. -

The House Rules Committee voted unanimously Monday to pass House Concurrent Resolution 31, a resolution to acknowledge the achievements of Oregon native, Ashton Eaton. Ashton holds multiple world records and brought home a gold medal in the 2012 Summer Olympics.

"Ashton is an amazing athlete who has brought great pride to our state and our community." said Rep. Jason Conger (R - Bend), who chief sponsored HCR 31. "He is not only an amazing athlete, but an excellent role model for young Oregonians. His discipline, maturity, integrity and success are to be admired."

HCR 31 commemorates Eaton's outstanding achievements in athletics. He quickly gained notoriety in high school sports and went on to be a five-time NCAA champion at the University of Oregon. After winning gold in the decathlon, he is now widely regarded as "The World's Greatest Athlete." Eaton attended high school at Mountain View High School in Bend and college at the University of Oregon in Eugene.

"Ashton and his family made many sacrifices to make it to where he is today," Rep. Conger explained. "Countless hours of training and hard work have put him at the top of his game, and it has paid off. We are proud of his achievements on and off the track."
