One student and a suspected shooter were killed at a high school near Portland, Oregon, Tuesday morning, police agencies said.
The shooting happened at about 8 a.m. PT at Reynolds High School in Troutdale, about 12 miles east of Portland, said Sue Strickland of the Troutdale Police Department.
There was only one shooter involved in the incident, police said.
A semi-automatic weapon was involved in the shooting, Strickland said.
About an hour after the shooting, Oregon State Police said the area was secure and that the situation was contained.
Classes were in session when the shooting began, Strickland said.
A couple of SWAT teams went to the school after the shooting was reported, Strickland said.
Students told The Associated Press they were told there was a lockdown over the intercom.
Students were evacuated from the school and taken to a nearby supermarket parking lot to join their parents, according to the AP.
