Cornerback Brandon Flowers reached a deal to sign a one-year contract with the San Diego Chargers, according to multiple reports on Tuesday.

Flowers was released by the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this month and was coveted by several teams.

A Pro Bowl selection last season, Flowers was released by the Chiefs because his 2014 salary would have resulted in a $10.5 million cap hit. Kansas City signed him to a five-year, $50 million contract with $22 million guaranteed in 2011.

The 28-year-old Flowers, who was selected in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Chiefs, is expected to bolster the Chargers' secondary depth. He also will have an opportunity to prove this season that he is deserving of another long-term deal.
