Women's singles luge wraps up in Sochi

Erin Hamlin became the first American to win a medal in an Olympic singles luge competition, taking a bronze medal on Tuesday.

The top two positions were swept by Germans, with Natalie Geisenberger taking gold and  Tatjana Huefner winning silver.

Hamlin, a 27-year-old Remsen, N.Y., native and the 2009 world champion, finished 12th in the women's singles event at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, and then was 16th in 2010 in Vancouver, coming in as the highest placed American in the event.

Kate Hansen had the next highest finish of any American, ending up in 10th. Fellow American Summer Britcher finished in 15th place.
